I have a nice three bedroom apartment on Meyran Avenue. This apartment building was built in 2010 and features many things not normally found in south oakland. This apartment is safest and most energy efficient apartment I have seen in South Oakland. Here are the features not normally found in South Oakland Apartments. 1. The whole house had been well insulated. There is R-30 (12 inches of insulation) in the ceiling and we built the walls with 2x6's instead of 2x4's so that we could put 6 inches in insulation in the walls. In addition to that all the windows and doors are made with low - e glass to help with heat loss. 2. This apartment features a high efficiency heat pump that does both the heating and air conditioning. This is all electric so that you will not have a huge gas bill to worry about in the winter. 3. The apartment building has been built with fire safety features that I have not seen elsewhere. All of the drywall used in this building is firewall, a drywall product with a 1 hour fire rating. If fire were to break out, this product will slow its progress. Also, on both sides of the building there is a fire barrier to help stop fire from spreading from a neighboring building. Lastly, there are integrated smoke alarms so that if a fire is detected down stairs, you know about it the same time as the apartment it broke out in. 4. THERE IS PARKING - Each apartment is assigned a parking lane which can fit 2 cars, so long as your cars are not gigantic. 5. Did I mention that this is basically on campus? This house is roughly a 3 minute walk to Posvar Hall, right in the Heart of South Oakland. 6. Laundry is in the unit. It is free and we provide and service the machines.
